May 11, 2008 - ProKart Challenge - Infineon Round 2
Race Report: Jason Berry runs with Team Aluminos at the 2nd Round of PKC NorCal

The Team Aluminos kart racing squad continued its support of the ProKart Challenge program this past weekend, competing at the second round of the organization’s Northern series at the Infineon Raceway Karting Center. The Sonoma, CA facility is home turf for the Team Aluminos squad and while they remain focused on the continuing development of the GP Kart and their in-house engine work, they were also able to take advantage of zero travel time to relax and enjoy the sport they love. Three drivers flew the Aluminos colors on the weekend, including owner Rob Soares, who went ‘head over heals’ in an effort to win his main event.

Soares earned the top qualifier honors in the TaG Masters Heavy division, only to be removed from the classification for missing a neck brace. Despite the questionable ruling, Soares focused on the task at hand, moving from the tail of the field to the front. He did just that, advancing to P1 by lap three, reaching on the tail of the lead group from the TaG Masters Light division. Trouble erupted, however, as the driver ahead of Soares got on the binders too early heading into a corner and contact was made. The result sent Soares up and over, with the kart coming down on top of him. After kicking the kart off, Soares walked back to the pits with a sore hand. Unfortunately, the PKC officials removed Soares from the results again with the call of rough driving.

Starting again from the back of the field in heat two, Soares muscled his way through the field and through the pain of his injured hand to take the class win with a last lap pass, placing him fourth overall. In the main event, Soares held the point for his division for the full 15-lap race to earn his first victory on the year, placing third overall, just one-second back from the overall winner.

Team Aluminos owner Rob Soares overcame an injured hand to score the TaG Masters Heavy win at the recent ProKart Challenge North event in Sonoma

“It was a wild weekend for sure,” offered Soares. “I’m really happy that it all ended with the win and I have to thank Joe White for the power, as I was running one of his Leopards.”

In S3 competition, Team Aluminos’ Marc Elliott began the event by qualifying third. Jason Berry joined in on the action at the start of the heat races, gridding at the tail of the field. Berry, known for his driver coaching and tuning work off the track, advanced to third after the eight-lap sprint, finishing one spot behind Elliott. Getting the jump at the start of heat two, Berry held the second spot ahead of Elliott until the Colorado native made the pass stick with three laps to go to start the final from grid spots two and three. In a repeat from heat two, Berry was quick off the line, slotting into second with Elliott in tow. Elliott again made his way by Berry, taking the second place finish as Berry fell one more spot to fourth, just outside a podium finish.

Team Aluminos will now gear up for the third round of the ProKart Challenge South program, set for May 31 at the Willow Springs facility in Rosamond, CA with a full squad of drivers set to take on the desert course.

Anyone interested in learning more about this professional team are asked to contact Aluminos owner Rob Soares at 925.786.7865 or visit them online at http://www.aluminos.com . You can also e-mail Rob via sales@aluminos.com

About Aluminos:
Continuing to establish its position in the sport, Aluminos Inc. is a manufacturing and distribution company specializing in kart racing specific products, based out of San Ramon, CA. April 16, 2007 - Stars of Karting - Oklahoma
Race Report: Andrew Murray races hard in two main events to gain valuable points

The opening round of the Stars of Karting 2007 season was held at the popular Oklahoma Motorsports Park, owned and operated by Champion Racing. To do well at this facility, you need the complete package of driver, chassis, and engine.

Fast Fusion Kart Services was on hand to support the team of Andrew Murray in the very competitive Cadet class. Friday practice was over shadowed by the rain conditions, and all competitors looked forward to Saturday and Sunday for the drier weather. When Andrew took to the track for Saturday's group 1 qualifying session, he did his job by placing his TopKart machine on the pole for group 1. After group 2 hit the track with better conditions (drier and warmer), Andrew's time would place him 5th overall, a great start to the long weekend.

Once the groups were set, Andrew Murray would start both heat races from the second row. In the first heat race, the Andrew Murray team was plagued by an uncommon engine performance issue. This would eventually shuffle Andrew back to 9th. With no time to diagnose the engine for carburetor or fuel issues (many teams suffered from oil separation due to the cold weather), the team decided to swap engine, carburetor, and fuel

For the 7 lap duration of the second heat race, Andrew would have a spirited battle for the number 1 spot, but contact with a fellow competitor caused a valve stem in Andrew's right rear rim to be ripped off and immediately lost pressure. This caused the rear sprocket to hit the pavement, ending any chance of a heat race win.

With two disappointing heat races down, Andrew would gear up for the two main events that lay ahead. Sunday's morning practice session placed Andrew's name on top of the list as the quick driver. For both main events, Andrew would start 25th.

The first main event saw a lot of action and a fast moving TopKart driven by Andrew Murray, and in the end, Andrew had a terrific drive from 25th to 5th. In the second main event, Andrew would have another great drive from 25th to 12th.

Jan. 15, 2007 - Florida Winter Tour
Race Report: Andrew Murray Podiums in Florida

Fast Fusion Kart Services has teamed up with Andrew Murray Motorsports for the 2007-racing season. To warm up for the 2007-racing schedule, we headed to the Florida Winter Tour for the first event. Andrew runs in the ultra-competitive cadet class aboard his MCR Comer powered TopKart chassis.

Andrew topped the charts throughout practice leading up to the event weekend. Saturday’s qualifying did not produce the desired results due to contact with another competitor, which only allowed us 2 posted laps. This would put Andrew 8th for the heat race, and with a good drive in the pre-final, Andrew worked his way to a 5th place starting position for the main.

In the main event, Andrew raced his way into the lead pack and was able to finish a very respectable 2nd place. Building on Saturday’s results, the team had high hopes of doing well on Sunday. Again, qualifying would be our Achilles heel, as we were only able to post 4 laps.

This time our starting position in the heat race would be 12th. The pre-final did not offer much help either, as we finished where we started. Sunday’s main event was a good day to learn from. Our starting position was horrible, but Andrew did not give up. The chances of a podium were unlikely, but Andrew did not give up. He drove a spirited drive from 12th to 5th, before an aggressive maneuver on Andrew’s part shuffled him to the back. Andrew regained his composure to race up to ninth place.

Nov. 15, 2006 - SuperNationals
Race Report: Caleb Kenney and Jim Kidd make it to Vegas Against the Odds

This past weekend Caleb Kenney and Jim Kidd participated in the SKUSA SuperNationals X in Las Vegas . Kenney made his bid for the win in TaG Senior and Kidd put all he had against ex-superpro drivers in the G1 division. This story could be a racer’s story but it is so much more, it is about a community of people that when challenged respond in ways that many wish they had every day. On Tuesday afternoon before the event, the hauler carrying Cameron Karting Driver’s Kenney’s, Kidd’s, Buckwalter’s, Smith’s and Issacson’s equipment to SuperNationals X was at the center of a major accident while traveling on I-5. The truck and trailer were swept off the road by the wind sheer of two passing semi’s and rolled multiple times down a 30 foot embankment. The truck and trailer were a total loss, however in a miracle of all miracles, the occupants Brett Buckwalter and Jeff Smith were safe. From an equipment stand point, the contents of the trailer looked like a tornado hit a mobile home.

After hearing that Buckwalter and Smith were safe, Kenney and Kidd then dropped their current travel plans and began to formulate a plan to see what was possible. Was anything recoverable; was the team’s equipment good enough to race? In a time of great loss it is amazing what racers do and how tight the community is. Jim’s long time friend and championship winning kart racer Ethan Wilson donated the use of his tried and true truck and trailer. Jim had some reservations as the truck was older and the trailer tremendously small as compared to what had left the shop earlier in the day.

The plan seemed simple Jim, Caleb and Kassy (Jim’s crew chief and wife) would drive to the impound lot and assess the damage, along with Caleb’s tuner Jason Berry of FastFusion.net, to pick up any useable equipment. Once there Jim, Kassy, Caleb, and Jason would then report the situation back to Jeff Smith. The rest of the team would make the call next day and consider what was possible.

Around midnight on Tuesday, Caleb Kenney and Jim Kidd met with tuner Jason Berry , of FastFusion.net, at the impound yard where the wreckage was stored. The good news all was not a total loss, by the time Jason got there the salvage yard had already un packed the mess inside the trailer. The situation was not as bad as it looked on initial impact. Jim and Caleb’s salvaged kart’s were placed into the back-up hauler, eloquently named the Scooby Doo Van, by Bill Issacson. Around 3 am on Wednesday morning Jim, Caleb and Kassy, left the impound yard just south of Fresno, CA looking at an 8 hour drive Las Vegas and SuperNationals X. An all night drive was planned in order to get every detail organized before Thursday practice, a scarce 30 hours away.

The Scooby Astro van was champ, she ran through the night without a wimper. After all she was back doing what she was bought new to do in 1988, carry race karts. Then it happened while cruising across the Mohave, Kassy notice something strange, she said to Jim and Caleb, “Guy’s that right side trailer tire is going flat.” Jim said, “You sure?” Now Jim was on Red Bull number four with no sleep in 24 hours, so his eyes were not as good as they should have been and Kassy responded, “Yes Jim, pull over it is going flat…” Then Just as Jim pulled to the shoulder, BOOM! Tire shreds were everywhere. This was not the challenge these three were looking for at 6:30 am. And it get’s even better no spare tire on board and no jack in sight. In the haste to get to Firebaugh, spares were just not thought about. The delay would be longer than just a quick wheel fix.

By now, hopefully mishaps were a thing of the past. Guess what? The bad luck continued. When the team rolled into Las Vegas at 2:30 pm to their surprise they had no pit spot. The problem, two teams with similar names and one pit spot. As it was late in the set-up day, no one notice the mistake, But thanks to Patti and Tom Kutscher of SKUSA, an amicable solution was reached and the team started to set up shop and begin the long task of checking every item on the race karts. Finally, CameronKarting customer engines were given to their appropriate parties and the team left exhausted from a long trek and a very emotional day. Jim, Caleb, Jason and Kassy’s were heavy with sadness that night as it was realized that the rest of the team would not be able to attend. The karts left behind were just too damaged to make the show. And so the show had to go on without Brett Buckwalter, Jeff Smith, Bill Issacson and Dave Gillespie. It would be a long sleepless night for all.

Thursday practice commenced at 7am the following day. Practice went smooth for both Kenney and Kidd, and with the help of tuner and lead mechanic Jason Berry, of FastFusion.net and Kassy Loving, both drivers made strides in the right direction and were gaining ground on the leaders of the their respective classes. Caleb Kenney and Jim Kidd posted lap times in the top half of their respective fields. Friday held host to qualifying and the first of three heat races. Jim Kidd drove his CameronKarting Powered TM, JKR sponsored ItalKart Supersonic V into the 23rd position. The timing loop failed to pick up Kidd’s fastest lap that would have put him into the top 10, and a gear change on the grid caused Jim to miss the final 3 minutes of his session. Caleb Kenney drove his Cameron Karting Powered Parilla Leopard, Fast Fusion Tuned, Italkart Rapido to the 24th position out of a total 80 entrants. After qualifying Jason Berry, Caleb Kenney and Jim Kidd would all make some key setup changes that would see them gain some ground over their competition.

At the start of Heat 1 in the G1 division, Jim Kidd got a good start and was holding his ground when he was hit from behind, sending his competitor flying over Jim’s right shoulder and landing on a hay bale scattering hay everywhere. That is the very reason G1 is often looked at as the Gladiator 1 class, some of these guys just do not give a dam. But Jim carried on with nothing damaged he was able to continue and stormed up the field and finished 14th. Heat 1 in the TaG Senior class would see Caleb Kenney moving from his 12th starting position to a 10th place finish. Jim had this to say, “Man, what a race, I am glad to get the first one over, I forgot how rough it is out there, looks like it’s time to put the chrome horn to use.” Saturday would hold the remaining two heat races and the last chance qualifiers for the Super Pro and TaG Senior divisions.

Saturday would see both Kenney and Kidd finding their first blow of bad luck on the track. In Heat 2, Kidd fell victim to a clutch issue on the start and as a result a stalled engine. Driving from 38th after getting the motor re-fired, Kidd managed to finish 21st in the short 10 lap heat race. Caleb had a good 2nd heat and improved from his finish from Friday to go from 12th to finish 7th running times one tenth of a second off the pace. Heat 3 would be rather uneventful for Kidd and he drove from 23rd to 17th. The final heat race in the TaG Senior division saw Kenney get his first stroke of bad luck on the track. Kenney would get another great start and would be running in the 8th position when ICA standout Jess Peterson ran over the back of Kenney’s Italkart taking out the radiator and axle. Unable to finish the heat Kenney was escorted to the trackside care unit for a bruised lower leg. Once cleared, it was unknown if Kenney would have to run in the Last Chance Qualifier. The team did not care and had to assume the worst and had just an hour to get a mangled axle out of Caleb’s kart. And so Jason, Jim and Kassy went to work on the ItalKart to get it ready. A borrowed radiator from Joey Whimsett of Seattle Karting would make the fix complete. Kenney ended up being the last qualifier to make the main event on Sunday by points from the heat races, thus making the LCQ an event that Caleb would not have to do. Whew tragedy overcome again. Caleb was spent and let his feelings be know.

Sunday saw the main events taking place and both held good outcomes for both Kenney and Kidd. Kidd started the G1 Main Event in the 18th position and would fall back a few spots on the start. The race was red flagged after lap 2 for an injured driver, and on the restart Kidd would put his head down and drove. At the waving of the checked flag, Kidd crossed the line in the 13th position. Kenney started the TaG Senior Main Event in the 30th position and after a crash filled start, put his head down and worked with other drivers to get through the field. At the end of 20 laps, Kenney would be in 11th. Both drivers were happy with the outcome of the weekend; a lot of hard and help from the karting community paid off with good, solid finishes in both classes.

Jim had this to say after the event, “I wish all of us were here, this was the most emotional challenge I have face in a long time… I am very greatful to everyone that told us to keep pushing and all of the heros out there that steped up gave us what we needed when we were short. Next year we come back with a new found respect for our fellow racers, and one of us will win!”

Caleb Kenney and Jim Kidd would like to thank some amazing people who helped them find their way on the track; Jason Berry of FastFusion.net for tuning two karts at one time and putting up with two needy drivers, Kassy Loving for making sure we were all fed and hydrated, Ethan and Dea Wilson for the loan of truck and trailer, Scooby Power, Brett Buckwalter of Cameron Karting for CameronKarting’s bad to the bone engine performance, Patti and Tom Kutscher of SKUSA, The Valiente Family at Italian Motors, Ron Tamba, Larry Frasier, Craig Corwin of G-Force for sacrificing his time to make sure Jim did not blow his engine, Will Martindale, Sergio Machado, Rocky and Jon Allen, Ray Zanato, Mike Derosiea and Tom Dyer at KLS Racing, Ron White at Ron White Racing/KLS Racing, Joey Whimsett of Seattle Karting, Don and Gina Fleischman for the kick butt cookies and for letting us keep Ethan’s trailer at their house after the race, Daren Peterson, Enzo Chiovitti, and André Martins from Tony Kart Florida, the people an Mojave Ford, and for moral support; Brett Buckwalter, Bill Isaacson, Jeff Smith, Anthony Ward, Robert Orcutt, John Lewis, Ethan and Dea Wilson Jim’s Parents Harry and Virginia Kidd, Kassy’s mom and dad Janice and Bill Craig, sister Kristy Miller, and friends Essie Ann, Cindy Johnson, Shelly Taylor.

Race Report: Kenney Doubles Down with 3rd karting win

This past weekend played host to the Jim Russell IAME Championship Racing Series Race #6 and Caleb Kenney entered the race with high hopes and confident of a good performance. Caleb did just that and doubled down with his 3rd win of the season, becoming the only repeat winner in the class thus far. However, the day did not start out as planned; a blown motor in the 1st practice saw an engine change required. The replacement power-plant being a Cameron Karting prepped Parilla Leopard.

In qualifying, Caleb piloted his Cameron Karting powered, Fast Fusion tuned Italkart TaG package in the 5th position but had strong and consistent lap times all day. The pre-final would see some great action with Caleb showing how it’s done. At the start Caleb grabbed 3rd from his 5th place starting position; Caleb then worked his way to the front and won the 8 lap pre-final and securing pole position for the start of the race.

The main would be more eventful with three drivers all determined to taking the checkered flag first. At the start of the main Caleb would drop back to second, behind ex-team mate Taylor Robutz. Caleb stayed glued to Robutz’s bumper and on lap 12 pulled the trigger and went by for the lead in the infamous Tic Tac Toe section of the Infineon Karting Center. One lap later, Robutz made an aggressive pass down the front straight. On the exit Robutz’s momentum pushed Caleb’s machine wide allowing Mark Drennan to take the lead, putting Caleb back to 3rd. On lap 14, Robutz went to the inside of Drennan for the pass and again his momentum carried them both wide and contact was made sending Drennan off the track and removing the exhaust on Robutz’s machine. With Robutz unable to continue, Caleb inherited the lead with the white flag in sight. Caleb cruised to his 2nd main event win of the year in the Jim Russell IAME Championship Racing Series, becoming the only two time main event winner of the season. The win propelled Caleb to 4th in point’s standings with the championship still up for grabs among 7 drivers.

“I can’t thank Dave Gillespe and Brett Buckwalter of Cameron Karting enough for lending me an engine so I could continue to stay in the championship hunt. They have built awesome engines all year long and they have proved to be the class of the field. I would also like to thank my tuner Jason Berry for giving me a great handling kart. With both a great motor and awesome chassis it makes my job look really easy. I would also like to dedicate this win to my Mom who came out to see me race today.” said Caleb Kenney shortly after his third win of the season.

Caleb Kenney, aboard his Cameron Karting powered, Fast Fusion tuned, Italkart will race next on October 28th for the final round of the championship where Caleb is confident of another great performance.

Race Report: JB back in the kart for Dixon Club Race

It has been a year since I have been in a kart on a competitive level, and I must say I had a blast. I am a member at Kinsman Kart Club located in Dixon, CA. The event was very affordable to race(45 bucks), we qualified via transponders, raced two heats and a main event. The best part, we were done by 2:30pm. I entered my Vortex RoK powered KLS Racing GP 8 package into the TaG class. We had around 15 guys in the class and the top 5 guys were within a few tenths.

During qualifying, I was able to post a time good enough to place myself 3rd, and this would be my starting position for heat 1. It had been a few years since I participated in a rolling start, so I was a bit rusty and got shuffled back to 5th, but through the course of the heat, I moved back up to 4th. 4th would be my starting position for heat 2, and I got shuffled back more to finish 5th. Not real good. For the main I would start 5th adn I was deteremined to run better. The start went ok, I did not lose any postions. I was struggling with the Rok's rpm limiter, which was set at 13,800. So the parilla leopards were able to stretch out a little on the straight, so I had to play catch up in the infield. I was able to work myself up to third, and this is how I crossed the finish line. I was awarded second after we crossed the scales and the tech official noticed the leader had lost his exhaust.

Overall I was pleased with my result. I was a front runner and I didn't embarrass myself. I didn't know how competitive I would be, but I did know I was going to have fun. I would like to thank Rob Soares of KLS Racing for setting me up with an awesome GP 8 chassis, it has been one of the best karts I have ever assembled. I need to thank SwedeTech Racing for helping me with the engine side of the program. The engine was not modified by SwedeTech, but they helped me with the carburator settings. I would also like to thank Will Martindale for spinning the wrenches.

Race Report: Strong Run and Great Battle for First

After a strong result at the Stars of Karting event at Infineon Raceway, Caleb Kenney and his Cameron Karting ItalKart package headed back to Infineon for some more racing action. This weekend would not dissappoint the race fans in the National Cup class.

To start the day off, Caleb qualified his Cameron Karting package 4th, but his lap times were strong and consistent. This would set the stage for some great racing all day long. After some minor changes, Caleb was set for the heat race.

With a starting position of 4th for the heat race, Caleb had an awesome reaction time and jumped from his standing start to take over the 1st spot. After a few laps, the 2nd place kart made a strong move and moved us back to 2nd. The heat would finish in this order.

In the main, Caleb started off pole and again, had a perfect start to take the lead. As the laps counted off, a great battle for first developed between Caleb and John Van Neighm. Lap after lap, they would pass each other and hold each other off. The racing was clean, but definitely hard. In the end, contact was made and shuffled Caleb back to 6th spot and John also lost a few positions. To take the win was Amber Friedberg.

Race Report: Caleb Kenney Podiums in the Stars of Karting Spec TaG class

Caleb Kenney entered the Stars of Karting race held at Infineon Kart track this past weekend. This would only be Caleb's third national level kart race in his young karting career. Friday was the official practice day for the event, and Caleb was able to run a time quick enough to be placed in the top five for the official timed practice session.

The Saturday portion of the event would be full of ups and downs. To start the day, Caleb was disqualified from the qualifying session due to an incompliant battery pack that we placed on the kart to replace the defective OEM battery. Due to the DQ, Caleb was forced to start the heat race in 23rd. After the drop of the green flag, Caleb moved his kart into the top ten after the first 6 turns of the first lap. After a great drive from the back, Caleb would finish 8th to start the main.

During the main event, Caleb quickly moved into the top five, but as the laps would pass, Caleb would find himself between 4th and 7th. Towards the end of the main, Caleb was running a very strong fifth and was in a position to move into fourth and third. During this time, Caleb also posted the races fastest lap. As the final two laps approached, the leaders tangled and allowed Caleb to positon himself for a 3rd place win.

When the checkered flag fell, Caleb's Cameron Karting package would be sitting in third. This would be Caleb's first national level podium.

Sundays event started off on a much better foot, as we were able to qualify 6th and would finish the heat race in fourth. Sundays main event was not as forgiving or generous. After starting 4th, Caleb was able to move into third on the start. When all the karts cleared turn one, Caleb was struck from both sides causing a bent axle and a spin into the grass.

"I would like to thank Dave and Brett from Cameron Karting for there assistance all year long. I am proud of how Caleb performed at this event. For his limited racing experience, Caleb showed many signs of maturity." stated Jason of Fast Fusion Kart Services.

Race Report: Iame Race Series - TicTacToe Section Steals Another Result

Coming off a strong run from the Davis Kart club two weeks ago, Caleb Kenney was ready to tackle Infineon Sprint layout kart track for the Iame Series. Today was a very hot day as the weather station under the Cameron Karting tent had tempuratures of 111 degrees for ambient air temps. Brett Buckwalter of Cameron Karting was on hand to offer tuning assistance and covered all of the engine duties.

After the first few practice sessions, it was clear that Caleb was going to be fast all day long. The Cameron Karting Parilla TaG engine was putting the horsepower to the rear axle of the Italkart. We opted to go out in the second qualifying group to capitalize on optimum track conditions, and the decission paid off well as Caleb qualified off pole with a 49.9 second lap. The group would be split into two groups, so for the heat race, Caleb would be on pole for the B Group. From the drop of the flag to the checkered, Caleb drove a flawless race and captured the heat race win.

Caleb's driving effort earned him the overall pole for the Main event. From the start, Caleb led the pack for the 15 lap race. As the white flag flew, Caleb entered the Tic Tac Toe section of the track and lost his chain. The driver in second did not have time to react and climbed over the top of Caleb's ItalKart. Both drivers are ok, but Calebs day was over.

"I am very disappointed in our overall finish for the day. Some of our competitors were involved in incidents that would not allow them to compete in the main, so we could have picked up some valuable points in the championship today. I was very happy with Caleb's performance, as he was clearly the fasted kart on the track, but the physical aspect of the Tic Tac Toe section has stolen a few podium finishes from us." said Jason Berry.

Race Report: Davis Club Series - Second Win for Caleb Kenney

With a large break in our racing schedule, Caleb and I decided to head over to the local Davis club. I have not raced the track since the changes have been put in place a few years back, and Caleb had never seen the track.

On Saturday, Caleb put in a few sessions to become familiar with the track and to get the gearig close. Within a few sessions, Caleb was as fast as the local track hot shoes. Sunday would be a good event as three drivers were very close, Caleb being one of them.

Davis uses a modified motocross type scoring for the heat races. Our practice times from the morning session would grid the heat races. Caleb had the second fastest overall time, so the first heat he would start in 2nd. During the first heat, he was taken out by an over aggressive driver, which would put Caleb in the back of the twelve kart field. The second heat Caleb moved his way into the top five. For the main, we would start a few rows back. During the racing Caleb methodically moved and passed through the field. When he saw the chance for the lead, Caleb made an aggressive pass on the leader, but neither would give an inch and they collided. The third place kart took over the lead and Caleb would chase him down. After a few laps, Caleb repassed for the lead and never looked back.

"I thought Caleb drove smart but aggressive today. His first pass for the lead was a bit assertive, but Davis is a very narrow track with limited passing options. His manuever was not out of control or meant to take out the leader, but neither of them wanted to give an inch.", stated Jason Berry.

Race Report: Infineon Iame Series Race #2 - First Win for Caleb Kenney

After a few heart breaking DNF's, Caleb Kenney bagged his first karting win at the Infineon Iame Series Race #2. Fast Fusion was also working with Taylor Robutz on board his Powerworks powered AlphaKart. Taylor was fast all day long, with very impressive qualifying and heat race results. During the main event, an ontrack incident forced Taylor to the middle of the field in which he was able to work his way into 9th, but his result did not properly reflect his speed through out the weekend.

Caleb Kenney's effort came together very nicely in the main event. He qualified his Cameron Karting powered Italkart in 3rd place and finished second in the heat race. Through out the day, Caleb was driving well and the complete package came together for the main.

"This weekend has mixed feelings for me." said Jason Berry, owner of Fast Fusion Kart Services.

"Taylor was very fast all weekend and would have easily finished in the top 3, which would have netted great results for Fast Fusion. But as the saying goes, that's racing. Although I am very happy for Caleb. This first win has eluded us for 3 months, and it feels great to finally have all the pieces come together. I hope both of our drivers can grow from this weekend and put together some great results for the rest of the year." Jason explains.

Race Report: KartSport Grand Prix at Infineon

This weekend, Fast Fusion Kart Services and Caleb Kenney attended the 2006 KartSport Grand Prix. The event all weekend was great. Three classes, on the track every 45 minutes, NO WAITING, it was great. The event itself was great. Caleb's view on the weekend was not so great. In the first 4 practice sessions, a throttle cable broke, engine broke, and a carburator malfunction. But as I told Caleb, all the crap is now out of the way, and it was.

Our first ray of hope shined upon us during qualifying. The promoter decided to send 5 karts on the track at a time with one lap qualifying. The twist was the fast five from the timed practice session would have the track to themselves. After all the groups hit the track, we were sitting in the 6th spot. I was happy with that, the worst we would end up would have been 11th. Then, one at a time, the fast guys hit the track. After the 5th fast driver, we were sitting in 11th. Good place to start the heat races.

The heat races were rather uneventful as Caleb drove hard and smart in all heats. I told him the number one goal was to finish were he started, and all three times he did just that. We wrapped up the heat races with a 4th, 5th, and a 6th place finish. After the points for the heat races were figured out, Caleb would start the race from 8th.

The main event carried more pressure as Caleb would start the main event in the top ten. His new objective is to move as far forward as possible. After some good battles and smart driving, Caleb finished 8th overall. Caleb did very well for his limited national level experience and he kept his head on after all our struggles on the practice day. He looks forward to the next race.

Race Report: Infineon Iame Series - Race #1

Saturday was the first race for the Iame Series at the famous Infineon (Sears Point) Karting facility. Mother Nature kept the tuners and drivers busy all day with unpredictable rain patterns. Fast Fusion had two drivers entered in the National Cup Light class. Caleb Kenney was running his ItalKart with Cameron Karting power, and Taylor Robutz was running his Alpa kart with a Powerworks prepped engine.

The first challenge was the setup for qualifying. It had rained all morning, but the track was drying out with sprinkles coming down. With Caleb, we took a large gamble and ran a conventional dry setup with rain tires. With Taylor, we ran a more conservative approach. Caleb qualified 2nd overall and Taylor qualified 11th. Caleb kart was very fast, but when Taylor hit the track, it was just to dry for our setup.

With changes made to both karts for the changing conditions, both Taylor and Caleb where ready to go. The event director had split our class into two groups, so Taylor would run group 1 for the heat race and Caleb would start on pole in group 2. Taylor started 5th after the reconfiguration of the groups and would run an awesome race to finish 2nd. Caleb would go the other direction and lost one spot during the start. For the main, the Fast Fusion drivers would start 3rd and 4th.

Both Caleb and Taylor had good starts. Caleb would make the first full lap in 2nd and Taylor was in third. After the midway part of the race, Caleb was pushing the leader around the track when the "tic-tac-toe" section claimed another competitor. As Caleb was midway through the infamous section, his chain broke. This would move Taylor into 2nd and he would easily retain the 2nd spot for the remainder of the race.

Race Report: Jim Russell Series - Race #1

This weekend was the kickoff for the 2006 karting season at the Infineon Kart Track. Under the Fast Fusion tent was Caleb Kenney, running the TaG Expert class to warm-up for the upcoming Kart Sport Grand Prix. The weather was not very cooperative, as the rains and slicks were swapped on and off the kart 4 times today. Caleb has only 1 year of kart racing under his belt, but he showed well in this years winter series. Today the competition was tough with names like Cole Nelson and Andrew Alfonso entering the event.

Caleb qualified his Fast Fusion tuned, Cameron Karting Parilla TaG Italkart to a third place position. Qualifying was done on the slicks, and Caleb did very well to adapt to the ever changing conditions. For the heat race, the skys would poor down some more rain, and I made the decision to run the rain tires. Starting in 3rd, Caleb would be shuffled back to 5th, but was able to gain one postion back to finish fouth. This was Calebs first rain outing in a racing kart, and he looked very comfortable at the controls. Heading to the main, the track was rapidly drying out, but I decided to go with the rain tires. The rain tires proved to be the right choice, but Caleb was unable to race past the first corner of the first lap after some contact from behind.

Our end result was disappointing, but it was a very good experience for Caleb. Caleb was competitive all day, but sometimes accidents happen in racing.

Best Career Finish for Caleb Kenney

This past weekend, the Infineon Kart Track hosted a season warm up race, also known as the winter series. Fast Fusion was on hand to assist local driver, Caleb Kenney. Caleb entered the National Cup Light class, a 125cc spec TaG engine class. With only 1 season of karting experience under his belt, Caleb showed very well in the very competitive class.

Caleb qualified his Fast Fusion tuned, Cameron Karting Parilla TaG Italkart to a second place spot. This would set the pace for the day. Jason Toft, 2005's driver to beat, and Caleb were able to pull away from the rest of the field in both the heat race and the main event. Caleb finished a close 2nd to Toft.

Jason Berry heads to the Florida Winter Tour to Assist the Texas Tornado, Collin Lynn

This past weekend, Fast Fusion headed to Florida to assist Collin Lynn in the world famous Florida Winter Tour. Collin used the winter race to warm up for the 2006 Stars of Karting tour which kicks off in March. Collin was quick all weekend long on his SwedeTech powered MRP Birel, logging times quick enough to place him in the top five. Some heat race incidents delayed Collins progression, but he was able to drive from 28th to 11th to wrap up racing on Saturday. Sunday was a bit better with a solid 9th place finish.

Jason Berry's thoughts on the weekend, "This was the first time that Collin and I worked together, and I think we did well with our setup and communication. I was hoping for a stronger finish, but Collin pushed his machine hard to make up lost ground from a couple on-track incidents."

To properly support the local karter, Fast Fusion will be supporting the karting events at the Infineon Kart Track, Region 11 IKF series, Dixon and Stockton kart clubs. Fast Fusion Kart Services 2005 Year in Review

2005 was an exciting year for Jason Berry and Fast Fusion Kart Services. New for 2005 was a kart rental program that saw good success and will continue for 2006. Fast Fusion utilized Vortex Rok TaG engines and TopKart chassis for the rental programs and schools. Many of Fast Fusion's 2004 customers asked Jason to come back to assist them for the 2005 season. Most notable was Cole Whitt and Whitt Racing.

Cole competed in the Stars of Karting National Championship Series as a rookie in the Pro ICA class. Along the way, Cole collected three 1st place trophies, the most of any Pro Rookie in either the ICA or ICC classes. In doing so, Cole was recognized as the Stars of Karting Rookie of the Year for 2005.

Another team that utilized Jason's services for the 2005 racing season was Infinity Kart Services. Infinity Kart Services used Jason in 2004 and was very happy to have him back for 2005. Infinity Kart Services stores and prepares karts at the Infineon Kart track and has many drivers that compete in many different classes at the Northern California track. With the help of Jason, some of Infinity's customers added their first trophies to their display cases.

To wrap up the 2005 racing season, Jason was able to get back behind the wheel of a kart for the Infineon kart track annual 4 hour enduro. Jason would co-drive with national champions, Brett Buckwalter and Landon Yee. Jason was very delighted to rejoin Brett for this years event and the team put in a good effort to place 4th in the Pro TaG division. Jason would like to thank Dave Gillespie and the Cameron Karting team for the opportunity to race again.

Fast Fusion Kart Services will have a 2006 racing schedule and exciting new programs available to the local karter. A press release will follow shortly, but for more information on Fast Fusion Kart Services, visit their site at www.fastfusion.net or call (925) 528 - 9011

Cole Sweeps STARS Weekend in Pro ICA

Cole Whitt started the weekend off well topping the speed charts in both practice sessions on Friday. Saturday, Cole placed his Red Bull (Italkart) on Pole with a 48.71, the only driver to get into the 48-second range. Cole drove away with a dominate win in the Pre-final and Final. After his win Cole sated, "Everything just felt right and the Italkart is working great".

On Sunday, Cole backed up his efforts with the Pole and took control with a Pre-final win. On the start of the Final, teammate David Jurca took the lead. Cole stayed glued to his teammate's bumper as they raced nose to tail for 19 laps. With two to go, Cole pulled the trigger and passed Jurca for the lead. On the white flag lap, Jurca drove deep into turn one passing Cole in the draft throwing his Italkart sideways. His momentum carried him wide and Cole was able to drive back with an inside pass. Whitt went on to claim his third Win of the 2005 season. "It was great racing with my teammate David Jurca and I am very happy to bring home another win to Italian Motors", said Whitt.

Fast Fusion Kart Services Assists Infinity Kart Services at the Infineon Kart Track

Fast Fusion Kart Services has assisted Dave McEntee's Infinity Kart Services at the Infineon Kart track. Infinity Kart Services offers kart storage, race prep, and Arrive and Drive programs. Jason Berry of Fast Fusion Kart Services has been working with Infinity for a year and a half as an additional tuner for Dave's growing list of clients.

"I enjoy working with Infinity Kart Services because most of their clients are kart owners that just want to show up on the race weekend and jump in a kart. Recently we have had very good success with one driver taking the main event win and another driving from 20th to 6th, in only 15 laps. The time and effort Dave puts into his program shows, considering that the competition for both drivers spend multiple days at the track. These above mentioned gentleman are weekend warriors."
